Wasa Eagles

U-8 YOUTH ACADEMY

Come and join us for an UNFORGETTABLE experience!

Our #1 GOAL is for children to THOROUGHLY ENJOY playing the game of soccer through a FUN and FESTIVE ATMOSPHERE!

Through FUN, CHALLENGING, and ENGAGING sessions we believe children can rapidly learn the FUNdamentals in the sport of soccer (dribbling, ball control, passing, and finishing).

WASA Eagles FC Academy Teams will play other U-8 Academy teams in Central OH in a variety of game formats (3v3 all the way up to 6v6), and will have two-day-a-week ‘play practice’ soccer sessions.

Costs are still being determined for the

Fall 2008/ Spring 2009 seasons.

Program developed by Rob Smith (1996 US Olympian, 5-year player with the Columbus Crew, MA in Sport and Exercise Education from the Ohio State University, current Elementary Physical Education Teacher, WASA Eagles FC Director of Player Development, and Soccer Dad of three). Sessions will be run by Rob and other WASA Eagles FC trainers.

Winter '09 Announcement:

U8 Academy Spring 2009 Soccer Information:
It is hard to believe with the bitter cold temperatures and snow on the ground that it is time to get ready for WASA Eagles U8 Academy team; but Spring is just around the corner and hopefully an early Winter thaw as well.

I am sending this e-mail to those who have expressed an interest or may have a U8 son or daughter who may be interested in the WASA Eagles U8 Academy Soccer Program.  If you are not interested, just delete, I will not be offended :) OR if you have a friend that has a son or daughter that you think may be interested in the program please feel free to forward the information to them.

Last Fall our daughter, Katie, had the unique opportunity to participate in the 1st ever MOSSL U8 Academy Soccer Program.  Katie joined the WASA Eagles club playing for the girls U8 Academy team. Our team's Head Coach is Rob Smith who oversees the program supported by 2 experienced parent assistant coaches; one for the girls team and one for the boys team. The WASA Eagles U8 Academy boys and girls teams train together twice a week for 8 weeks, with their coaches and/or Crew trainers.  The teams participated in 5 weekend Festival of Games last Fall.   The U8 Academy Festival of Games offered a round-robin format where teams played small sided games with 4 to 6 players on each side.  Each team played four 15-20 minute games against other select soccer clubs at each festival.  The focus of the U8 Academy program is to teach young players the fundamentals of the games of soccer while developing their soccer skills in a fun environment.  Katie truly enjoyed this experience and is ready to start kicking the soccer ball again!

The cost to particpate in the WASA Eagles U8 Academy program is $200 for new players joining for the Spring 2009 season.  This cost includes a team uniform, training and games.  Our U8 Academy teams will practice twice a week; one training with coaches and 8 training sessions with our "Crew" trainer(s). Practice will start early March (weather permitting) with week-end Festival Games beginning in April.  The season will run through mid-May; most likely finishing before May 17th. Once again the focus of the program will be on developing soccer skills and learning the concepts of the sport rather than just playing 10v10 games.  Small-sided games of 4v4, 5v5 or 6v6 will be played during the Festival Games.

If your son, daughter or their friends are looking for an opportunity to take their soccer game to another level, get specialized soccer training and play smaller sided games please let me know.  We are looking for a few more players to add to our team roster. There are no tryouts at this age level.

We look forward to another fun and exciting U8 Academy season.  Hope you can join us!
